Poetry: Recite all of the poems learned so far.  2 weeks until the Poetry Bee. Memorize the second stanza of "Don't Quit." Extra cash if you memorize the third stanza as well!

Don’t Quit

John Greenleaf Whittier

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,

When he might have won had he stuck it out;

Don’t give up though the pace seems slow-

You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,

It seems to a faint and faltering man,

Often the struggler has given up,

When he might have captured the victor’s cup,

And he learned too late when the night slipped down,

How close he was to the golden crown.

Eureka:

Watch these two videos:
How can the ideas in these videos help you identify birds you see? Apply the ideas taught as you prepare your reports on two birds in the following assignment.

Learn about two birds that are common in Utah.  Sign up on this link for one bird from each column (or add a bird that interests you to the list). Come prepared to share a few facts about your chosen birds, such as habitat, food, size, etc. How would you identify these birds in the wild? Use the library, internet search, bird books, or the following sites to get you started.

Please come prepared with a snack, binoculars and a jacket as we plan to go birding for most of the morning.
