VIDEO ASSIGNMENT

Hey guys! It's me, Marilee! This week we're going to be learning how to do two different video edits. First, a simple video transition and second, how to do smooth edits from short clips to make a storytelling video.

For your homework you're just going to follow the steps below and bring your tablet to class with you. It needs to have CapCut downloaded AND all your video clips already on your device. Here are your instructions:

1. Download CapCut to your device

First, we're going to do a jumping transition video.

Here is an example:

*You get the idea, you'll start out wearing a certain type of clothing -- maybe it's your pj's and messy hair like the little girls, or maybe you'll just not look ready for the day. Be as creative as you want.

*Choose a spot that you can stand in (you'll need to stand in the exact spot later so make sure you can remember exactly where you stood). Set up your camera in a spot where you can film yourself. The camera will also need to stay in the exact spot so keep that in mind.

*Record yourself in your "messy clothes" -- move around, make faces, dance like a crazy person, don't just stand there. After moving around for a bit jump in place. End the video. Don't worry about the fact that you're recording extra stuff (like you walking up to the camera to stop the video), that will be edited out later. :D

*Now you're going to change into what you want to wear. Do you want to dress up in your favorite outfit? Wear tons of accessories? Put on a halloween costume, a sports uniform, a fancy dress ... whatever you want! Once you are changed stand in the exact same spot and start with a JUMP and then keep moving, dancing, moving, waving, whatever you want. Then stop the video!

*Bring those TWO clips AND Capcut downloaded onto your device to class. I'll teach you how to add music, special effects and edit it together to make a smooth transition.

THINGS to keep in mind: Getting your camera in a steady spot with a good angle. You can't move the camera and you don't want it to fall over. Also, think of lighting. If you do it outside the light can change, if you do it inside you can control the light a little more.

Second, a short storytelling video.

Here are three examples -- you can see how even though they are all telling a very different story they are all made up of short moving clips to tell a story.

For this next assignment we're going to do a video all about YOU. This is more like a mini vlog than all about transitions. You are going to be taking 10 video clips, no more than 10 seconds each (we'll be editing them shorter). You could be baking something and you'll take a few video clips of the whole process. You could be making a craft and take some clips of the process from beginning to end. You could even just take 10 different clips of your house -- your room, you and your siblings, your favorite books, just stuff that's all about you. **As you take these clips include movement. Pan your camera along your bookshelf, or start up high and move closer to the recipe you are making. Movement will be much more interesting than still clips.
Once you have 10 short videos that tell a story bring them to class and I'll teach you how to stitch them together and add music to make a fun little vlog all about you.

That's it! Text my mom if you have questions! :D
